To maintain healthy hair you should get it cut every six (6) to eight (8) weeks. The hair begins to split at about this time at the ends which makes the ends weak -- causing breakage. By cutting the hair, the split ends are removed before problems can occur.
Professional hair products are pH balanced for hair. This makes them less harsh on hair. It is assumed that professional hair products cost much more than the hair products at the Drug store. However, the non-professional hair products contain mostly water, therefore you use more than you would use if you were using a professional hair product.
The average growth of healthy, normal hair is about 1/2" (one-half inch) per month. Hair growth is also influenced by: seasons of the year, nutrition, hormones, and health.
If you are using a professional shampoo, then damage will not occur if used everyday. However, you should not use a deep-cleansing shampoo on your hair everyday. It may strip all the natural oils from the hair, leaving it dry and brittle.
Consult your physician. Normally, it is best not to have a chemical service in your first or third tri-mesters.
If you are using a professional shampoo it is not necessary to change. You may consider using a deep-cleansing shampoo once a week.
If you suffer from tangles and knots, try detangling your hair while it is wet. Apply a good conditioner and using a wide tooth comb and start from the ends. Take as much time as is necessary to avoid stretching or breaking your hair. Apply a leave-in conditioner for added protection.
You should always file the nails in the same direction starting at the corner and moving to the center. Never file back and forth on the nail.
1. Chlorine: To check if your water contains high levels of chlorine, contact your local water municipality. They provide to their customers information pertaining to the water quality. Their number should be listed with your water bill. If the water has a high amount of chlorine you might consider getting a filter for your shower. Chlorine can strip color out of the hair and/or make it really difficult to color.

Regularly wash your combs and brushes to keep them clean. Use a little shampoo and an old toothbrush to scrub them and then spritz them with a little alcohol from a small spray bottle to disinfect. Rinse and dry. If the bristles are worn or the teeth are rough throw them away and buy a new set. Worn brushes and combs can rip your hair causing breakage and contributing to split ends.
Keep the vents in your blowdryer clean to prolong its life.
